Are you looking for a unique living experience in an architecturally designed home?
The home is a contemporary single story, split level configuration, passive solar design with partially below grade north side elevation and full height, 80 foot long glass walls on the south side. A wood trellis with wisteria cover extends from this south face for summer shade control.
A porte coche separates the main house from the studio/quarters that is self contained with a full bath, wet bar and walk-in closet. Conceptual plans for adding an additional two bedrooms with playroom and bathroom and a separate addition of an indoor swimming pool/ hot-tub are available.
Entering the main house there is a large “great room” that steps down from
the entry. A central feature is a large heating area with a Vermont Castings
wood stove. This is adjacent to the open dining and kitchen area that you
step up to. A mud room/laundry/pantry is located off the kitchen. An attached
two-car garage with large storage room is accessed from the mud room. A climate-controlled
walk-in wine storage room with a capacity of 1800 bottles is located adjacent
to the covered patio off the kitchen.
Ceilings are vaulted with indirect lighting and a centered fireplace
alcove. Stepping down from the great room is the small library and a guest
half/bath. Adjoining the library is a solarium/spa and access to a outdoor
sun patio.
The master bedroom suite is off the library and comprises of a sleeping
area, curved wall sitting room with a Jotul cast iron fire stove, dressing
room and master bathroom. The bathroom has a large cast iron soaking tub,
large walk-in shower with curved glass block screen wall and separate toilet
room.![]()
All areas are heated and cooled with heat pumps. The concrete centered fireplace
alcove in the great room provides most of the heating for the main house
thru out winter.
Most of the main house has stained & sealed concrete floor surfaces
as part of the passive solar design. The master bedroom has a hardwood floor
over-layment. Bathrooms and solarium are tiled.
Exterior finishes are rustic stained cedar vertical siding with adjacent full height stacked shale walls on the north face and sides. The glass solar windows are fixed in wood stops and are adjacent to pairs of insulated glass french doors. The balance of other windows thru out the house are insulated vinyl casement and fixed units. Roof areas are pre-finished mental standing seam.
Areas immediately adjacent to the home are
landscaped both for natural beauty
and fire protection. The balance of the rolling hills of oak and madrone
are left natural, providing exclusive privacy. A very large wildlife pond
is nestled in the oak woodland behind the home site. Below the home sits
the greenhouse and barn/ shop. The greenhouse is glass roofed & south
facing with stained vertical cedar and shale walls to match home. The glass
area is 900 square feet with concrete floor, heat stove and sinks. The metal-roofed
area is 300 square feet with full bath, storage and office space. The entire
area was approved as habitable space and can be used as a guest quarters.
The barn/shop is 1440 square feet of which one third is raised wood floor
work space with a 3/4 bath. The main structure is a true pole barn with
concrete block base walls veneered with shale and stained vertical cedar
closure walls.
There
are 14' pull-down doors to close off the barn. Barn floor area is shale
and decomposed granite. There are three stall spaces and storage area above
the shop.
A concrete block well house has a new 280 foot deep submersible pump and pressure tank. Pressure is maintained at 40 to 60 psi.
The septic system is a four bedroom “standard” system with a 1500 gallon
concrete tank.![]()
